Platform 9 3/4

Magic Brick Wall

The magic brick wall used as the entrance to Platform 9 3/4 is one of the simplest decorations I made but somewhat time consuming. Also, I'll tell you now, I somehow missed photographing the final product at my party but I promise you it was a nice touch.

What you'll need:

Picture
1 twin sized sheet in white or ivory
Red & brown paint (or a brick red)
At least 1 large rectangular sponge
Nosey cat optional

How to:

To fit the width of a regular door, fold your sheet in half length-wise and lay it on the ground or long table (pro tip: lay it on top of plastic or something that can be easily cleaned as the paint will more than likely seep through). Next you'll want to mix your paint - you're going to need a lot of it. You probably won't be able to make enough to complete the whole wall at one time but that's ok - you can make more and it doesn't matter if all of the bricks aren't the same color.

Now all you need to do is soak one side of your sponge in the paint then press it onto the sheet laying it out like bricks:

Lay out the bricks all the way down the sheet until you get to the bottom, mixing more paint as needed.

When you're done it should look something like this:

After the paint is dry, cut the back half of the sheet off and hang it from the door way of your choosing. Once it's hanging, cut the excess off the bottom so people don't trip or accidentally step on it and pull the wall down - that would sort of kill the magic. The last step is to cut up the center about 3/4 (no pun intended) of the way, or high enough of people to walk though.

I chose to hang this in the doorway heading upstairs but you could hang it any where you want! (I'll try to get photo of this in action).
